HLT40312 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice
Dear Prospective Student,
There have been recent updates to the national training packages for Massage Therapy.
These updates can and do occur regularly when the National Skills Council requires a change or update to a current qualification.
Once the update is announced there is a “teach-out” period that exists to allow students to:
- Complete the current HLT40312 qualification OR
- Transition to the updated qualification either during or at end of this teach-out period
Updates to HLT40312 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice
On 6 August 2015 the qualification HLT40312 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice was updated to HLT42015 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy and is now in a transition phase.
As a student enrolling into the HLT40312 course you can either opt to:
- Complete the HLT40312 course by the mode of study you prefer by the 31 July 2016
- If you are unable to complete the HLT40312 course by 31 July 2016, you will need to be transitioned to HLT42015 course. This will involve completing any new curriculum requirements of the updated version of the qualification and may incur additional fees.
Note if you plan to complete by 31 of July we recommend that you speak with our student advisors in advance to ensure that your timetable is planned correctly.
What is the major change to the Certificate IV in Massage qualification?
The updated Certificate IV in Massage Therapy will require a mandatory 60 hours of on-campus supervised student clinic as part of student assessment.
For some students this will not be much of a change. The NSW School of Massage currently offers on-campus supervised student clinic in our Sydney Campus. Supervised student clinic is a part of all campus based courses.
However this may be an issue for home study based students who do not think they are able to schedule attendance at our student clinic in Sydney to complete this new requirement.
Can I still ENROL into the HLT40312 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice without the new student clinic requirements?
Currently only our home study course does not require on-campus massage clinics to be undertaken. As such, if your preferred program for HLT40312 is the home study program then there is still a “teach-out” period (until 31 of July 2016) to allow you to enrol and complete the HLT40312 qualification.
Please note students will need to complete their studies by the 31 of July to avoid being transitioned to the new HLT42015 qualification.
Will I need the new qualification to work as a massage therapist?
Qualification upgrades are very common and occur frequently.
Below is a list of recent and frequent updates to this qualification:
When was the update made
Generally it is not necessary to update a recently superseded qualification as they are still recognised in the industry by massage associations and professional insurance providers. It is advised the student check with their preferred providers regarding specific requirements.
Once the new qualification is implemented in 2016 any student can request to transition to the new qualification. This may require gap training and associated extra fees. More information will be available later this year.
